Dave Pelz: Practice Makes Perfect?
Dave Pelz, Golf Magazine’s technical and short game consultant, has heard the phrase time and time again. “Practice makes perfect.” He whole heartedly disagrees.
“The phrase is not only technically inaccurate, but almost completely wrong. It gives the impression that if you practice long and hard enough, eventually you’ll get very good at something. It fails to address how good the quality of your practice must be before it can help you improve.
So practice all you want, you get good at something, But is it what you striving to perfect?
Dave Pelz recommends you always use training aids when practicing to gain some feedback on if what you are doing is actually improving your game. If you see Phil Mickelson before his tee time on tour, you’ll see him using training aids for proper alignment on the green. By following Mickelson’s lead, you can make your practice time serious learning time which will show up in lower number on your scorecard.
At Feel Right Golf, we have developed a training aid that addresses the multiple facets of the game. It is fun and easy to use. It fits in your bag and is ultra lightweight. Plus it give immediate feedback. Check out the training drills on the website, www.feelrightgolf.com. I’m sure you’ll find multiple ways to practice getting lower scores.
